It’s the question we get asked most in the shop, and there’s no single right answer – it depends on the room, the light, and what you actually want the window to do.
Living rooms and bedrooms: curtains usually win
Curtains bring softness and warmth that blinds can’t quite match, and with a lined fabric you get proper insulation and blackout too – worth thinking about for bedrooms especially. They also soften a room acoustically, which is easy to forget until you notice a room without them.
Kitchens and bathrooms: blinds are more practical
Steam, splashes and grease make fabric curtains harder work in these rooms. Blinds are easier to wipe down, give you precise control over light and privacy, and take up less visual space around a sink or hob.
Why not both?
A lot of our customers do exactly this – a blind for daily practicality, with curtains layered in front for warmth and to soften the look in the evening. It’s one of the easiest ways to get both function and a finished feel in the same room.
If it’s a child’s room
Worth reading our guide to blind safety below before you decide – it affects which type and style makes sense, particularly for cords and chains.
Still not sure? Bring us a photo of the room and we’ll talk it through – that’s genuinely easier than trying to describe it over the phone.
